Mini MS Microphone
Mini MS Microphone
Introducing the Mini MS! This microphone features two internal capsules: a cardioid capsule facing the front and a figure 8 capsule facing either side. Together, the microphone can record in “mid side” format, which can be easily decoded to traditional stereo either on your portable recorder or in your digital audio workstation of choice. This gives you independent control over how ‘wide’ the resulting stereo image is. All in a package that’s roughly 50mm long, 15mm diameter. Check out some of the audio examples below!
INCLUDES:
1x Mini MS Microphone
1x Mini MS Cable, 6 ft. Mini XLR (Mic) to 3.5mm/Aux TRS (Recorder), Mogami & Neutrik Parts
1x Nylon 3/8” Microphone Clip/Mount
RECOMMENDED:
Wind Protection- MOVO WS-G10 (Amazon)
Acoustic Guitar
The following example was recorded on acoustic guitar in a mildly treated room. The mic was placed 10-12” from the port on the guitar. The recording has been decoded from MS to stereo and there is no EQ, compression, noise reduction or other processing involved.
Mic Body Comparisons
The following example files were converted to mp3 format (96khz, 24bit) because my website hosting service doesn’t allow for uncompressed/lossless formats like wav. If you would like to download the full quality files, you can do so at this Google Drive link.

Signal to Noise Ratio: 72dB Typ (at 1kHz, A-weighted)Max SPL: 122dB SPL at 1kHz
Frequency Response: The lower line corresponds to 90° off-axis; the rejection of the sides when facing the front of the mic in the case of the Mini MS.
Frequency Response
The following spectrogram shows the microphone’s frequency response, recorded at 192khz (see the logarithmic frequency scale values on the right side of the image for details). The microphone tapers off around 30khz.
